Non-Research

I have a wide range of interests and hobbies that I enjoy outside of research, most of which are described on this page.

Taiwanese Young Researcher Association (Project TYRA)

  • I’m a co-chair of Project TYRA (website in Mandarin), a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Our goal is to connect Taiwanese research around the world.
  • We host weekly seminars covering topics such as research, academic and non-academic careers, and studying abroad outside of Taiwan.

Mentor–mentee program for studying abroad

  • Each year, we recruit mentors who are currently studying or have studied abroad, and paired them with mentees interested in applying to graduate school outside Taiwan.
  • In 2024, we matched around 300 pairs of mentors and mentees.
  • For more details, please see the website (in Mandarin).

Travel ✈️

  • I spend a lot of my holidays traveling, both inside and outside the US.
  • I also seize the chance to explore new places when attending conferences.
  • Thanks to the fact that I only need computers and internet to work, I’m able to stay productive and find inspiration even when I’m traveling.

Music 🎼

  • I was a tenor in the YS choir (友聲合唱團) at National Chiao Tung University.
  • I was also a piano accompanist in the same choir.
  • I was also a member of the Digital Music Creation Club at National Chiao Tung University, where I made a few songs with Logic Pro.
  • I used to play Trombone during my high school, but I know nothing now.

Language

  • Mandarin (普通話、中文) and Taiwanese (台語) are my native languages.
  • I obviously also speak English.
  • I’m slowly learning Japanese (日本語) and Spanish (español).
  • I’m on Duolingo continuing my streak.

Fun facts

  • I was born and raised in Taiwan (台灣).
  • I’m a night owl and definetly not an early bird.
  • I don’t do any sports. 🙃
  • But I like hiking and walking for scenary/historical/interesting views.
  • I used to like eating shrimps🦐, but after I got some unfresh shrimps, now I’m afraid of them.
  • Strangely I’m not afraid of lobsters🦞 and crabs🦀 probably because they are generally more expensive.
